Boeung Ket seek to extend lead

Boeung Ket will be optimistic for a positive result when they welcome Soltilo Angkor to National Stadium in tomorrow evening’s Matchweek 15 Metfone C-League highlight.

The back-to-back defending champs lead the field at the top of the standings with 36 points and are four points clear of closest challengers NagaWorld.

In their last league outing, Boeung Ket forward Chan Vathanaka made a winning return to the Metfone C-League heading home the winner against National Police in his first start for defending champs since his return from the Malaysian Super League last month.

Vathanaka ghosted in behind the Police defence midway through the second period to head home Samuel Gbenga Ajayi’s pinpoint cross from the left-wing. The goal handing the Rubbermen a valuable three points and a 1-0 victory.

League newcomers, Soltilo have cause to be optimistic after they turned over lowly Western 3-0 in their previous match.

In other fixtures tomorrow, Visakha will attempt to build on last week’s victory over six-time champs Phnom Penh Crown. They face Asia Europe United who lost their last encounter with Ministry of National Defense. Angkor Tiger and Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng wrap up tomorrow’s action.

On Sunday, a reduced schedule will see Western attempt to record their first points of the season, albeit against a resurgent Army. National Police and Electricite du Cambodge complete the matchweek 15 highlights.

NagaWorld and Phnom Penh Crown were due to face off at the Army Stadium this weekend but due to Naga’s commitments to a youth event in Kampong Speu, the match has been postponed until Friday, July 27.

Crown did however make the next round of the domestic Hun Sen Cup on Wednesday, defeating Electricite du Cambodge 4-0 (6-1 aggregate).

Sin Kakada, who scored twice on the night, was pleased with the result and hopeful of securing a trophy.

“Our team played well, we played well together and we won, said the young attacker. “For the first leg, some of our players had not played much so we could not play as well as we did in the second leg. We definitely have a chance to win the trophy because most of our Cambodian players are highly technical and gaining experience.”

Other results on the night saw Angkor Tiger win the Siem Reap derby 1-0 (3-2 aggregate) against Soltilo Angkor, while Army netted 10 on aggregate in a 7:1 win on the night. National Police edged Kirivong Sok Sen Chey 1-0 (3-2), while Visakha were dumped out going down to PKR Svay Rieng 1-1 (2-1 aggregate).
